Bradford White RG2100H6N in practice
The RG2100H6N is the flagship of the high-input atmospheric family: 100 US gallons of storage with an 80,000 BTU/h burner, a 157 US gallon (594 L) first-hour rating and a hand-hole cleanout for inspecting the tank interior and removing sediment, which the Canadian sheet lists for this model only. Its 1 1/4 in water connections and 413 lb (187 kg) shipping weight place it at the boundary between residential and commercial equipment.
It carries 3/4 in side space-heating connections, is certified to ANSI Z21.10.3, vents by natural draft through a 4 in draft hood and needs no electricity, so it keeps serving during outages. It does not carry the Defender FVIR system. UEF 0.57 is rated under the DOE high-draw class for tanks above 55 US gallons. Whether CANRO stocks this model for a given job is confirmed at consultation.
Best suited to
- Homes, suites or light-commercial spaces with very heavy peak demand on one atmospheric unit
- Potable plus space-heating applications needing 100 US gal of storage
- Where a hand-hole cleanout for sediment removal is wanted
Limitations to know
- 28 1/4 in jacket and 413 lb shipping weight need serious floor space, access and a structural check
- 1 1/4 in water connections; 80,000 BTU/h input needs a gas supply sized for it
- Does not carry the Defender FVIR flammable-vapour-resistant system
- UEF 0.57 is below ENERGY STAR and is a high-draw rating, not comparable with medium-draw figures

Storage capacity 2
| Specification | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Rated nominal volume | 100 US gal (83 Imp. gal, 379 L) | Canadian sheet C1108. Nominal, not the tested storage volume. |
| Rated (DOE) storage volume | 95 US gal (360 L) | Published on the US sheet 1108 only; not on the Canadian sheet. |
Delivery and recovery 2
| Specification | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| First-hour rating | 157 US gal (594 L) | Single column on C1108, not fuel-specific. Based on AHRI directory listing. The sheet's litre column prints a figure that does not convert from the US-gallon figure; the US-gallon figure is used. |
| Recovery at 90 °F (50 °C) rise | 85 US gal/h (322 L/h) | Natural gas and propane inputs are equal on this model. Recovery efficiency up to 80% per Bradford White. |

Manuals
Maintenance the manufacturer specifies
- Inspect the anode rod every 2 years and replace when depleted; more often with softened water (manual, Maintenance item 9).
- Operate the T&P relief valve at least once a year to check it lifts and reseats without leaking (item 6).
- Drain about a gallon monthly to remove sediment (item 7); annual inspection by a qualified technician.
- Inspect the vent system at least once a year; check burner flames twice a year (items 10 and 4).

Services
Hot water and scalding
- Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
- Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
- Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.
Official guidance: Government of Canada on water temperature and scalds and HealthLinkBC.
Frequently asked questions
Is the RG2100H6N sold in Canada?
Yes. It is listed on Bradford White's Canadian residential gas page and on Canadian spec sheet C1108. Bradford White sells only through wholesalers, so it is supplied and installed by contractors such as CANRO.
Is a 100 gallon tank still a residential water heater?
Bradford White lists it in its Canadian residential gas range, but its size, connections and 413 lb weight make it a job for an engineered assessment of floor, chimney and gas supply. Multi-unit and commercial applications are assessed on site.
What is the hand-hole cleanout for?
It is an opening that lets a technician inspect the tank interior and remove sediment, which the Canadian sheet lists as a feature of the RG2100H6N only. Sediment is more of an issue in hard-water regions than in Metro Vancouver.
