If the water heater is leaking

  1. Close the cold-water shut-off valve on the pipe feeding the heater, if you can reach it safely.
  2. Gas unit: turn the gas control to OFF. Electric unit: switch off its breaker. Do not touch electrical parts while standing in water.
  3. Do not cap or plug the relief-valve discharge pipe, even if that is where the water is coming from.

A leaking tank body cannot be repaired; a dripping relief valve or fitting often can. Call CANRO with a description of where the water appears.

Frequently asked questions

Is WaterHeating.ca a water heater company?

WaterHeating.ca is operated by CANRO Heating & Cooling, a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor in Burnaby, BC, serving Metro Vancouver since 1999. The catalogue is Canada-wide information; on-site service is offered in Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

Can I buy a water heater on this site?

Not as a retail checkout. Purchasing is handled as a consultation and supply-and-install enquiry so the unit is sized from your hot-water demand and installed to its manual and BC code.

Is the installation estimate free?

CANRO publishes free in-home estimates for water-heater replacements and installations. Repair visits carry a diagnostic fee that CANRO states is credited toward the repair if you proceed; the amount is confirmed by phone.

Do you cover electric and heat-pump water heaters?

Yes. CANRO's published services include gas and electric tanks, tankless and heat-pump water heaters. Phase 1 of the catalogue documents gas equipment first; electric and heat-pump models follow.

Does tankless mean unlimited instant hot water?

No. A tankless unit delivers a limited flow at a given temperature rise, needs a minimum flow to fire, and hot water still has to travel through the pipes. The tank-versus-tankless guide explains capacity and recirculation limits.
