Bradford White RG2D40S6N in practice
The RG2D40S6N is the 40-gallon member of the damper Defender line, which adds an automatic flue damper to the atmospheric-vent formula: while the burner is off, the damper closes the vent passage so room heat stops escaping up the chimney, and it opens before the burner fires. The tank vents by natural draft through a 3 in or 4 in draft diverter when heating.
It is a Defender Safety System flammable-vapour-ignition-resistant tank with the ICON electronic control and no standing pilot. The damper and control run on 120 VAC from the included 10 ft (3 m) power cord, so the unit needs a receptacle and stops heating during an outage. Its 62 US gallon (235 L) first-hour rating is lower than the plain 40-gallon tanks' because the damper and baffle shape the flue's contribution to the test. Hot water and scalding
