Rinnai RU130iN
The Rinnai RU130iN is an indoor condensing natural gas tankless water heater with a 15,000–130,000 BTU/h input, UEF 0.91 and up to 7 GPM (26 L/min) of flow at an unstated temperature rise. It is listed on rinnai.ca and is the smallest residential RU model, suited to one-bathroom homes and suites.

Rinnai RU130iN in practice
The RU130iN is the 130,000 BTU/h member of Rinnai's SENSEI RU condensing family. Its capacity is a flow rate that falls as the required temperature rise grows: Rinnai publishes 6.6 GPM rated and 7 GPM with parameter adjustment, with no stated rise behind either figure, and its flow curves apply only to inlet water at 21 °C or below. In Metro Vancouver winter, incoming water can be below 8 °C, so the deliverable flow at the roughly 40 °C rise to a 49 °C shower is well under the headline, and the unit is generally sized for one or two fixtures at once.
Installation follows the same rules as the larger RU models: 2" PVC, CPVC or polypropylene venting to an exterior termination, a 3/4" gas connection, a condensate drain and a 120 V outlet, with isolation valves included for the annual flush. Recirculation is supported through Circ-Logic with an external pump.

Circ-Logic control supports an external recirculation pump on a dedicated return line or via a crossover valve; the pump cable is sold separately. Recirculation makes hot water quicker at the tap, not instant, and adds gas use.

Maintenance the manufacturer specifies
- Flush (descale) the heat exchanger at least once a year using the included isolation valves; Rinnai states lime damage is not covered by warranty and hard water needs more frequent flushing.
- Set the Service Soon reminder (parameter 03: 0.5, 1 or 2 years) so the display prompts the next flush.
- Clean the cold-water inlet filter screen periodically.
- Register within 90 days of installation to keep the 5-year labour warranty; otherwise labour defaults to 1 year.

Hot water and scalding
- Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
- Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
- Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.

How many showers can the RU130iN run at once in winter?
At roughly a 40 °C rise, one shower-class fixture needs about 9 L/min (2.5 GPM), which this unit can serve; a second simultaneous shower generally exceeds it. The demand assessment checks the flow-at-rise table.
Is the RU130iN sold in Canada?

Why does the RU130iN have a lower UEF than the bigger models?
Rinnai's sheet rates the RU130i at UEF 0.91 against 0.95 for the RU160i, RU180i and RU199i. The ratings are from the same sheet but the two figures are only compared at the same draw pattern.
