About the AeroTherm Series G2 hybrid heat-pump water heater

The AeroTherm G2 is a hybrid: a heat pump on top of the tank moves heat from the room air into the water, and 4,000 W and 3,000 W backup elements cover demand the heat pump alone cannot meet. Its five modes range from Heat Pump (slowest recovery, least electricity) through Hybrid Standard (the factory setting, which blends heat-pump operation with the upper element) and Hybrid Plus (both elements and the heat pump together) to Electric Only and Vacation.

The heat pump operates in ambient temperatures from 3 °C to 49 °C and defaults to the electric elements outside that range, so a G2 tank placed in an unheated garage needs a winter plan rather than an assumption. The Canadian sheet notes quieter operation under 50 dBA, zero side and rear clearances, a top-mounted washable air filter with a cleaning alert, duct-readiness without a kit, an AWHS Tier 4 demand-response port (CTA-2045), and approval for manufactured-home installation under CAN/CSA Z240 MH.

Because it pulls heat from the room, the G2 cools and dehumidifies its space, needs a condensate drain and a suitable 240 V circuit, and is rated by UEF (3.89 to 4.20 per AHRI across the three models) under the hybrid standard mode basis the sheet notes. Current FortisBC and BC Hydro rebates for heat-pump water heaters apply when replacing an existing electric tank; eligibility is verified for the exact household. Whether CANRO stocks a given model for a job is confirmed at consultation.

Highlights

  • Hybrid heat pump with 4,000 W / 3,000 W backup elements and five operating modes
  • UEF 3.89–4.20 (AHRI); first-hour ratings 65–88 US gal
  • Heat pump operates in 3–49 °C ambient; elements take over outside that range
  • Top-mounted washable air filter; quieter than 50 dBA; zero side and rear clearances
  • Duct ready; AWHS Tier 4 demand-response port (CTA-2045); mobile-home approved (CAN/CSA Z240 MH)
  • 50, 65 and 80 US gal models; 10-year tank warranty per the Canadian sheet

The Canadian G2 sheet states 10-year limited tank warranties and a 6 or 10-year limited warranty on component parts. The heat-pump warranty document carries the full terms; confirm coverage details with the document before relying on them.

Frequently asked questions

Where can a G2 tank be installed?

It needs enough surrounding air for the heat pump (manufacturer guidance on air volume applies), a condensate drain and a 240 V circuit; it cools and dehumidifies the room it sits in. The sheet notes zero side and rear clearances and duct-readiness for routing air.

What happens in a cold garage in winter?

The heat pump only operates between 3 °C and 49 °C ambient. Outside that range the unit uses the electric elements, which is why placement inside the conditioned space or a ducted installation is part of the design.

Do BC rebates apply?

As of September 2026, FortisBC and BC Hydro heat-pump water heater rebates require replacing an existing electric storage tank. Eligibility and amounts are verified for the exact unit and household before anything is claimed.
