Bradford White TTW power vent Defender (RG1PV / RG2PV)

Bradford White's through-the-wall power vent tanks are the Defender Safety System gas storage line for homes without a chimney: 40 to 75 US gallons, 40,000 to 78,000 BTU/h, blower-assisted venting in PVC through a wall or roof, UEF 0.68 to 0.72 and a 120 V supply for the blower.

Venting
Through-the-wall (TTW) power venting under positive pressure in PVC, ABS, CPVC or polypropylene: 2 in (up to 50 ft), 3 in (up to 120 ft) or 4 in (up to 200 ft) equivalent length on the standard models. No chimney required.

UEF 0.72 for the 40 and 50 US gal RG2PV models per Canadian sheet C1261; the RG1PV models rate 0.68–0.69 and the high-input H models 0.68–0.69.

About the TTW power vent Defender (RG1PV / RG2PV)

A power vent tank answers the house with no usable chimney: instead of a draft hood and flue, the Defender TTW units push exhaust under positive pressure through PVC, ABS, CPVC or polypropylene pipe to a wall or roof termination, within 50 to 200 equivalent feet depending on pipe diameter. The trade is electricity: the AquaVENT blower runs on a 120 VAC circuit and the ICON System control is mains-powered rather than millivolt, so hot water stops in a power outage. Combustion air still comes from the room.

The family spans the first-generation RG1PV and current RG2PV platforms in 40 and 50 US gallon tall (T) and short (S) forms, plus high-input 50, 55 and 75 US gallon models with 3/4 in side space-heating connections. The Defender flammable-vapour-ignition-resistant system is fitted to every model except the RG1PV55H6N and RG2PV75H6N, which the Canadian sheet excludes from the Defender bullet.

UEF runs 0.68 to 0.72, a step above the atmospheric line because there is no standing pilot: the ICON control lights the burner electronically only when heat is called for. Models are sold in Canada under the current 19-suffix catalog numbers (RG2PV40S6N19, for example), while the Canadian spec sheet prints the numbers without the suffix. Whether CANRO stocks a given model for a job is confirmed at consultation.

Highlights

  • Through-the-wall venting in PVC, ABS, CPVC or polypropylene: no chimney needed
  • Electronic ignition: no standing pilot; UEF up to 0.72
  • 40–75 US gal; 40,000–78,000 BTU/h; tall, short and high-input H forms
  • Defender FVIR flammable-vapour resistance on all but the 55H and 75H models
  • High-input H models add 3/4 in side space-heating connections
  • 120 VAC supply required; 3.1 A blower; high-altitude rated to 10,100 ft out of the box

Bradford White's residential warranty document lists a 6-year limited tank warranty and 6-year limited parts warranty for these models (10-year models change the suffix 6 to 10; not available on the RG1PV55H6N). Labour is not covered; removal and reinstallation charges are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

Do power vent models still need a chimney?

No. That is their purpose: exhaust is blown under positive pressure through PVC-family pipe to a wall or roof termination. They need a 120 V receptacle instead, and combustion air from the room.

What does the 19 in the model number mean?

Current catalog numbers carry a 19 suffix (RG2PV40S6N19). The Canadian spec sheet C1261 prints the same models without the suffix; both refer to the same current units.

Is a power vent tank more efficient than an atmospheric one?

As a series, yes: UEF 0.68 to 0.72 against roughly 0.54 to 0.64 for the atmospheric line, mainly because the electronic ignition removes the standing pilot. The figures are medium-draw UEF values and are not comparable with tankless ratings.
