Rinnai RXP199iN in practice

The RXP199iN carries everything the RX199iN offers, with the recirculation pump built into the cabinet: no separate pump and no pump-cable purchase for a recirculation loop, which makes it the RX-family answer for homes that know they want a return line. It shares the RX platform's UEF 0.98, Wi-Fi control, 199,000 BTU/h cap and 11.1 GPM (42 L/min) maximum flow, all quoted without a temperature rise, so the flow-at-rise tables in manual 100000839 still govern winter sizing.

The pump adds about 3 lb to the unit (58 lb against 55 lb on the RX199iN). Recirculation shortens the wait at distant taps and adds gas use; it does not make hot water instant. Installation otherwise follows the RX platform pattern: PVC-family venting, a 3/4 in gas connection, a condensate drain and 120 V power. Whether CANRO stocks this model for a given job is confirmed at consultation.

Best suited to

  • Homes planning a recirculation loop who want the pump included in the unit
  • Buyers who want the RX flagship without a separate external pump installation
  • Large houses where distant taps otherwise wait for hot water

Limitations to know

  • Maximum flow is quoted without a temperature rise; winter delivery at a 40 °C rise is far lower
  • Requires 120 V power; no hot water during an outage
  • Recirculation adds gas use and pump maintenance
  • Annual descaling is a warranty condition; lime damage is excluded

The RXP carries the recirculation pump built in: no separate pump or pump-cable purchase as on the RX and RU models. Recirculation makes hot water quicker at the tap, not instant, and adds gas use.

Manuals

Maintenance the manufacturer specifies

  • Flush (descale) the heat exchanger at least once a year using the included isolation valves; Rinnai states lime damage is not covered by warranty and hard water needs more frequent flushing.
  • Set the Service Soon reminder (parameter 03: 0.5, 1 or 2 years) so the display prompts the next flush.
  • Clean the cold-water inlet filter screen periodically.
  • Register within 90 days of installation to keep the 5-year labour warranty; otherwise labour defaults to 1 year.

Services

Hot water and scalding

  1. Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
  2. Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
  3. Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.

Official guidance: Government of Canada on water temperature and scalds and HealthLinkBC.

Frequently asked questions

What does the P stand for in RXP?

The pump: the RXP199iN has the recirculation pump built in, where the RX199iN supports recirculation with an external pump.

Is the RXP199iN sold in Canada?

Yes. It has a live product page on rinnai.ca as of the verification date.

Does built-in recirculation make hot water instant?

No. It keeps hot water moving through the loop so the wait at the tap is shorter; the first draw still takes time to arrive and the pump adds gas use.
