Bradford White RG2PDV75H6N in practice
The RG2PDV75H6N is the flagship of the Canadian power direct vent line: 75 US gallons with an 80,000 BTU/h burner, an 86 US gal/h (326 L/h) recovery and a 134 US gallon (508 L) first-hour rating, backed by 3/4 in side connections for space heating. Its 26 in (660 mm) jacket and 291 lb (132 kg) shipping weight make floor space and access part of the specification.
It vents closed-combustion through 3 or 4 in twin pipes (up to 100 ft in 4 in) and, unlike the rest of the RG2PDV family, is certified to ANSI Z21.10.3 rather than Z21.10.1, alongside the other high-capacity Bradford White tanks. It carries the Defender flammable-vapour-ignition-resistant design and needs a 110 VAC, 3.1 A supply for the blower and ICON control. UEF 0.69 is rated under the DOE high-draw class for tanks above 55 US gallons. Whether CANRO stocks this model for a given job is confirmed at consultation.
Best suited to
- Large homes and light-commercial spaces with no chimney and very heavy peak demand
- Potable plus space-heating applications on one closed-combustion unit
- Homes that want Defender FVIR protection at the largest tank size available in the family
Limitations to know
- 26 in jacket and 291 lb shipping weight need floor space, access and a structural check
- Requires 110 VAC power; no hot water during a power outage
- UEF 0.69 is below ENERGY STAR and is a high-draw rating, not comparable with medium-draw figures
- Warranty excludes labour and anode consumption; anode inspection every 2 years is required

Maintenance the manufacturer specifies
- Inspect the anode rod every 2 years and replace when depleted; more often with softened water (manual, Maintenance item 9).
- Operate the T&P relief valve at least once a year to check it lifts and reseats without leaking (item 6).
- Drain about a gallon monthly to remove sediment (item 7); annual inspection by a qualified technician.
- Inspect the vent system at least once a year; check burner flames twice a year (items 10 and 4).

Hot water and scalding
- Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
- Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
- Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.
Official guidance: Government of Canada on water temperature and scalds and HealthLinkBC.
Frequently asked questions
Is the RG2PDV75H6N sold in Canada?
Yes. It is listed on Bradford White's Canadian residential gas page and on Canadian spec sheet C1117. Bradford White sells only through wholesalers, so it is supplied and installed by contractors such as CANRO.
How much gas does the RG2PDV75H6N need?
80,000 BTU/h on natural gas is double the input of a standard 40,000 BTU/h tank, so the supply line and meter are checked at assessment.
Can the RG2PDV75H6N run on propane?
The propane version is the RG2PDV75H6X with a 78,000 BTU/h input. Fuel conversion is not a field procedure; order the correct fuel version.
