Venting
Closed combustion twin-pipe venting: a blower pulls outside air in through one pipe (up to 35 ft in 2 in, 85 ft in 3 in on the S models) and pushes exhaust out through the other; concentric kits give a single exit. PVC, ABS or CPVC. 110 VAC required.

About the Power direct vent Defender (RG2PDV)

A power direct vent tank is the answer for a tightly insulated house with no chimney and not enough combustion air for an atmospheric unit: a blower draws outside air in through one pipe and pushes exhaust out through a second, so the burner never touches room air. The family runs 40,000 to 80,000 BTU/h with 2, 3 or 4 in PVC, ABS or CPVC pipe, concentric vent kits for a single wall exit, and intake runs that cannot exceed the exhaust run.

All four Canadian models carry the Defender Safety System flammable-vapour-ignition-resistant design, the ICON System electronic control with no standing pilot, and a 110 VAC supply for the blower (3.1 A), which means hot water stops during a power outage. UEF runs 0.68 to 0.70 and the sheet states 78% recovery efficiency.

The high-input H models (RG2PDV50H6N and RG2PDV75H6N) add 3/4 in side space-heating connections, and the 75-gallon unit is certified to ANSI Z21.10.3 rather than the Z21.10.1 of the rest of the family. Whether CANRO stocks a given model for a job is confirmed at consultation.

Highlights

  • Closed combustion twin-pipe venting: no chimney, no room combustion air needed
  • Defender Safety System flammable-vapour resistance on every model
  • 2, 3 or 4 in PVC/ABS/CPVC venting with concentric single-exit kits
  • 40, 48, 50 and 75 US gal; 40,000–80,000 BTU/h; UEF 0.68–0.70
  • Electronic ignition: no standing pilot
  • 110 VAC required (3.1 A); 6 or 10-year tank warranty, 6-year parts warranty, no labour

The Canadian power-direct-vent sheet lists 6 or 10-year limited tank warranties with a 6-year limited warranty on component parts (the 10-year models change the suffix 6 to 10). Labour is not covered; removal and reinstallation charges are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between power vent and power direct vent?

A power vent draws combustion air from the room and blows only exhaust outside. A power direct vent also pulls its combustion air from outside through a second pipe, which is why it suits tight, sealed rooms where indoor air is limited.

Do power direct vent tanks need a chimney or electricity?

No chimney: both pipes terminate through a wall. Electricity yes: the blower and electronic control need 110 VAC, so the tank stops heating during an outage.

Are these tanks flammable-vapour resistant?

Yes. The Canadian sheet lists the Defender Safety System FVIR design for the whole RG2PDV family, unlike the direct vent line which is sealed from the room instead.
