Bradford White RG240S6N in practice
The RG240S6N carries the same 40 US gallon nominal volume and 40,000 BTU/h input as the tall RG240T6N in a jacket that stops at 48 1/16 in (1221 mm), about 8 1/2 in shorter, at the price of a wider 22 in (559 mm) jacket. Its first-hour rating of 69 US gallons (261 L) is six gallons below the tall version because less stored volume sits above the flue; the short form is the answer to a low basement ceiling, not a way to gain capacity.
Like the rest of the Defender atmospheric line it vents by natural draft through a 3" or 4" draft hood into a chimney or B-vent, needs combustion air from the room and no electricity. Hot water and scalding
- Water above 49 °C at a tap can scald in seconds, and children and older adults are at most risk. BC's plumbing code limits shower and bathtub water to 49 °C.
- Storage tanks are normally kept hotter (Health Canada advises 60 °C) to limit Legionella growth, with a thermostatic mixing valve tempering the water to the fixtures.
- Never bypass or remove a mixing valve, thermostat or high-limit control to get hotter water.
